What is Ordination?
Ordination is the process by which individuals are set apart and elevated for the work of the ministry. Those who have been ordained are then authorized to perform ceremonies such as weddings. In order for someone to be ordained they must complete the application process and meet the prerequisites as outlined below.

- Download the Template on a PC - click here
- Open the Word document and press ctrl + a to "select all"
- Open your CHR email to a New Message
- In the body of the message press ctrl + v to "paste" the template
- Now edit the appropriate information and send it to the guest list
Ordination Prerequsites
- Be a genuine follower of Jesus
- Baptism
- Surrendered to the Holy Spirit
- Committed to refrain from alcohol according to Paul’s admonition to spiritual overseers.
- Live out the mission & values of CHR
- Agree with CHR’s Essential Beliefs
- A faithful, serving member of CHR for at least 2 years in order to develop your testimony
- within the body of Christ

Ordination Lifetime
Ordination from CHR remains in effect under the following conditions:
- The individual remains in ministry with CHR
- If and individual is no longer ministering at CHR, a yearly conversation needs to take place between that person and the Lead Pastor of Church at Hampton Roads to maintain connection and relationship
- This yearly conversation is the responsibility of the individual. Failure to remain in good relationship with CHR could result in removal of recognized ordination.
Ordination Process
Ensure that the following has been completed:

- Complete the Ordination Packet - Click Here to download
- Write a 5 page (or more but no more than 7) paper to include the following:
- The reason they love God
- The reason they submitted their life to Christ, timeframe and story of conversion
- Why they believe they are called to the ministry.
- What they believe their specific area of calling is and how they see themselves pursuing that call
- Supply CHR with a list of training they have had to date. (additional training may be required)
- Pray through and write a vision & mission statement for their life and ministry
- Step into roles as assigned by CHR leadership for practical experience
- Complete Background check and Drug test
- Complete the Pastoral Panel Interview
Pastoral Leadership:
- Conduct a background check on the candidate
- Drug test administered
- Conduct a pastoral panel interview (will be administered within last 6 months of the 2 year oversight period and is final procedure before ordination)
- Upon successful completion of the above, schedule an ordination ceremony
- Obtain guest list and send out email invitations using the Ordination Ceremony email template
